The RoundMap Approach to Strategy and the Strategic Planning Process

Within the RoundMap® framework, strategy is a company’s soul – it guides every aspect of an organization, from its objectives and actions to its structure and culture.

To view strategy as a standalone element is to overlook its integral role in every aspect of the business. Strategy is a living, breathing thing that requires constant evaluation, adaptation, and execution.

It’s like a well-oiled machine that needs regular maintenance to keep running smoothly. Strategy becomes stagnant and ineffective when viewed as an isolated element.

Strategic Planning Process

This is how we view the iterative, four-step strategic planning process:

  1. Strategy Analysis – assessing the current state of the business, identifying opportunities and challenges, and understanding the external environment.
  2. Strategy Formulation – setting goals and developing a strategic plan to achieve them.
  3. Strategy Implementation – putting the plan into action, mobilizing resources, and executing the strategy.
  4. Strategy Evaluation – continuously monitoring and measuring the strategy’s performance, identifying improvement areas, and adapting as necessary.

Like all aspects of RoundMap®, it is a straightforward, iterative, four-step process. Think of it like a never-ending journey – you set out with a map, adapt along the way, and adjust your course to reach your destination.

Conclusion

Within the RoundMap® framework, strategy is intertwined with every aspect of an organization. It serves as the guiding force, shaping objectives, actions, structure, and culture. Understanding that strategy is a dynamic entity, the iterative four-step strategic planning process is emphasized.

This process includes strategic analysis to assess the current state of the business, strategic formulation to set goals and develop a plan, strategic implementation to execute the plan, and strategic evaluation to monitor and adapt as necessary continuously.

RoundMap® recognizes that strategy should never be seen in isolation but rather as a living, evolving mechanism that requires constant evaluation and adjustment. By embracing simplicity, adaptability, and ongoing execution, RoundMap® aims to foster success and create an impactful journey of continuous improvement for organizations.
